Class description

Painting a portrait from multiple sessions is essential for an artist’s growth. Through repeated observation, we begin to perceive subtle details and build rapport with the portrait sitter. This familiarity will eventually guide us to compose a genuine likeness inspired by a sense of the subject’s spirit and character.

Throughout the course, as we paint two to three pictures of different poses, there will be a good deal of one-on-one instruction with several demos including how to use photos to finish a painting. Each student will have digital access to images taken from their spot for work outside of class time if they so choose.

Details

Time: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesdays for six weeks
Tuition: $295 plus a $50 model fee payable to the instructor at the first session
Location: Palette & Chisel, 1012 N. Dearborn, Chicago, IL in the northlight studio on the 3rd floor
Skill Level: All levels welcome, but some drawing and painting experience helpful

Continuing Pose Painting Class

Starting in May, I’m teaching another session of my class, From Sketch to Finish, at the Palette & Chisel in Chicago. The class meets from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesdays over the course of 6 weeks. Throughout the class, we will work from the same model in a continuing pose with the goal of completing a finished painting by the end.

Incidentally, it’s the same method that I used to create the main oil painting featured on my flyer below, The Strings of Time, which I’m honored to announce will be exhibited in the Oil Painters of America 26th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils this May.

Details: In From Sketch to Finish with Lenin Delsol, we will paint a single painting over the duration of the class. Continuing with a painting is important as a tool of study, enabling the student to see more and, in turn, paint more of what they see. With emphasis on drawing and artistic anatomy, the way the figure occupies any position will be better understood.
Required Supplies: A list will be emailed to you upon registration. If you would like to see the supply list before registering, please email the P&C office.

From Sketch to Finish with Lenin Delsol

Dates: April 15–May 6, 2015 (Wednesdays Only)
Meets: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the P&C’s northlight studio, 3rd floor
Tuition: $280.00 payable to the Palette & Chisel plus a $50 model fee payable to the instructor
Level: All Levels Welcome
Details: In this workshop, we will paint a single painting over the duration of the class. There will be a strong emphasis on drawing and the understanding of the human anatomy. Any medium will be welcome in this class, whether the student wishes to continue in the medium they currently use, or to explore a medium they’ve been interested in for a while, but had never really pursued in any real sense. Continuing with a painting is important as a tool of study enabling the student to see more and in turn paint more of what they see. With our emphasis on artistic anatomy, the way the figure is in any position will be better understood. The first part of the workshop day will be spent in practices intended to bolster confidence in drawing and the use of the respective media the student wishes to use, followed by the main event, the continuing pose.
